As you probably know, motivation is the key to language aquisition. As the teacher, I strive to find out why students have decided to take the leap, that helps me define how I can get the best out of them.
I am also aware it is important to teach students how to study; most have don’t know or have forgotten how to learn vocabulary, develop their listening skills, and their thinking skills in a language they do not master. To this end, the most effective way to learn words, phrases and acquire practical skills for communication purposes is to provide meaningful interaction in a relevant context. This stimulates students and helps them memorize as they venture to convey their message in properply formulated utterances.
My golden rule is: Only communicate in the language you are teaching. And guess what? It works!
